What the caller is asked

After booking, moving or canceling a visit, Sofia says the day and time and then asks, word for word: “Would you like me to text you the details?” On a yes, nothing is sent yet; she says, word for word: “Texts come from SmileDesk, only about the visits on this call. Message and data rates may apply, and message frequency varies. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help. Terms and privacy are at smiledesk.co/terms and smiledesk.co/privacy. Is it okay to text you?”

Only a spoken yes to those words counts; a caller who asks for a text first hears them before anything is sent. On a yes, the first text confirms the opt-in: “SmileDesk: You're opted in to texts about your visits on SmileDesk's demo line. Msg & data rates may apply. Msg frequency varies. Reply STOP to cancel, HELP for help. https://smiledesk.co/privacy” Then one text with the details goes to the number that called; the yes is recorded with the call, the number and the time. On a no, or no answer, to either question, nothing is sent and she says the day and time once more. A caller whose number already said yes on an earlier call is asked only the first question — the notice was read to that number before its first yes and is not read again, and no second opt-in confirmation text is sent; a yes on this call is still needed before any text, and a number that replied STOP and then started again hears both questions and gets a fresh confirmation.
