AI reception, thoughtfully made for dentistry
Meet Sofia, your dental AI receptionist. A thoughtful answer to patient calls, texts, and website chat, while your team focuses on care.
Built around the way
your practice works.
Made for dentistry. Designed around people.
Before a patient ever sits in your chair, there is a call. A question. A little uncertainty. Give that moment the attention it deserves.

Meet Sofia
An AI receptionist that handles the conversation, so your team can focus on the people in front of them.
She answers after hours, listens to the patient, and books into your connected schedule.
Hear herSample scenarios, not patient records or a live dashboard.

02 / AFTER THE LAST APPOINTMENT
A chipped tooth after dinner. A question about a first visit. Sofia answers when your team is away, with appointment support and a conversation your staff can review.
Hear an after-hours dental callFrom a new-patient inquiry to an appointment change, Sofia helps your front desk keep the day moving.
Missed calls and after-hours questions get an answer. Your patients have somewhere to turn when the office is busy or closed.
Sofia reads availability and books directly into Open Dental, Dentrix or Eaglesoft. Your team sees the visit where they already work.
Share your accepted carriers on either plan. Real-time eligibility checks are included on Complete or available as an add-on.
Your staff can review conversations, take over, and handle the moments that need a human. Clinical decisions stay with your dentist.
And what your front desk sees the next morning: take the office tour, five screens of a sample office, no sign-in.
Built by a practicing dentist
I've received calls at 11 or 12 at night from patients in so much pain they didn't know what to do. Those are conversations you don't forget. There have been evenings when I've returned to the office long after closing, simply because someone needed help and I knew I could make a difference.
“Behind every call is a person. Behind every person is a story. And every story deserves to be heard.”

Questions dentists ask
Details and the documents: the HIPAA page, the Service Agreement and the Business Associate Agreement. Anything else, write to us and a dentist answers.
She books. With Open Dental, Dentrix or Eaglesoft connected, she reads your live schedule, respects the scheduling rules of every visit type, and writes the appointment, reschedule, or cancellation back immediately. Your team sees it in Open Dental, not in a message to re-type. Dentrix and Eaglesoft are in progress; until then those offices book into the SmileDesk calendar and import patients by CSV.
No contract, no setup fee and no per-call fee. Each plan includes a monthly allowance that most offices never reach: 300 conversations and 500 call minutes on Reception, 600 conversations and 1,500 call minutes on Complete. Beyond that, use is billed at $0.75 a conversation and $0.30 a call minute on the following month's invoice, and you can watch the count on your billing page. The software connection and outreach are included on every plan, and so is telling patients which insurance you take. The plans page has the add-ons and the group discount.
When your card goes on file, and on that same day each month, or once a year on a yearly plan, after. There is no free trial: the receptionist starts the minute the card is on, and the first month is the first charge. If SmileDesk is not right for your practice, cancel from your Billing page within 30 days of that first charge and it is refunded in full.
Yes, and your phone system too. Whether it is a landline, a VoIP service, or an all-in-one suite with its own handsets, forward your existing line to SmileDesk after hours or on no-answer, or give it a number of its own for missed-call text-back. Nothing about how patients reach you changes, and nothing is replaced.
If you like. Sofia is the name a new office starts with; you can change it in Settings, the way you would name any hire, and every opener, text and honest answer says the new one. Whatever she is called, she is an AI receptionist, and asked whether she is a person she says so plainly.
No. She never says what a symptom might be, not even as a list of possibilities. She says why the dentist needs to see it, gives the first aid, and books. She never names a medication, over the counter or prescription; a patient's own doctor or pharmacist decides what is safe for them. Diagnosis and treatment stay with you.
The phone is answered. An existing patient is triaged, comforted, given emergency-room criteria if they apply, booked into the first emergency slot, and a text page with the details goes out to the dentist. A new patient gets the same care and the first emergency slot, but the dentist is not paged because the office has no history for them.
No. With Open Dental, Dentrix or Eaglesoft connected, availability comes from your live schedule plus every visit type's scheduling rules, and the booking is written back immediately. Without a connection, she books into the SmileDesk calendar your team confirms.
We sign a Business Associate Agreement with every paying practice, and no practice's patients use SmileDesk until every vendor that would touch their information has signed one with us. The current list of who has signed is available on request. The receptionist is built on minimum necessary: she never asks for a social security number or a card number, and never a full date of birth over text. Details on the HIPAA page.
Set up with you in one call. Live the same day. The wizard reads your website for your address, hours, services, and insurance. After that there are two clocks. Calls can start the same day: a local number is attached for you and you forward your line to it. Texting waits on carrier registration, which SmileDesk starts for you and the carriers take a few days to grant.
Any time. Every conversation is in your inbox; type a reply and she pauses. Emergencies, complaints, legal threats, and requests for a human are handed to you automatically, and during office hours a caller who asks for a person is put through to your front desk.
The patient still gets a reply that a team member will follow up, the conversation is handed to staff, and the failure is logged. Nobody goes unanswered.
